In November 2005, it was reported that the DEA had approved the importation of up to 99,000 bottles of Zyprexa (active ingredient: propoxyphene) manufactured by pharmaceutical giant Pfizer (PFE). Pfizer had previously announced that the shipment of Zyprexa would be restricted to 20,000 pills of 90mg each, with 1.7 million pills shipping worldwide. However, after the approval by the DEA, Pfizer confirmed that it planned to continue shipping Zyprexa across the U.S. and Canada. Pfizer also stated that the DEA approved shipment of the drug was in response to a request made by the FDA and not for generic pharmaceutical marketing purposes.
