Manipur activist Leichombam released by Supreme Court Order

A. Order to release the activist

National Security Act was pressed against the Manipur based activist- Leichombam. He was booked under the National Security Act (NSA) for a Facebook post criticising BJP leaders for advocating cow dung and cow urine as a cure for COVID.

The Supreme Court on Monday ordered for the release of Manipuri activist Erendro Leichombam, on or before 5 p.m. Monday. Subsequently, he was released at 4.45 pm – 15 minutes before the expiry of a Supreme Court deadline.

Lok Sabha clears Bill to end Retrospective Tax imposed on indirect transfer of Indian assets

A Bill to end all retrospective taxation imposed on indirect transfer of Indian assets was passed by the Lok Sabha on Friday. The government’s move to scrap the tax law. The finance minister, Sitharaman pointed out that the 2012 Finance Act provision that amended the Income Tax Act to make offshore transactions involving Indian assets–including those executed prior to the change in law, taxable in India-“a matter of prolonged litigation.”
